Mumbai: If 80% consumers on the concerned feeder must pay their current bills Mumbai, 5th Oct 2020: Taking into account, the problems in power supply to agricultural pumps at night, the constructive suggestions made by farmers and people’s representatives to supply power to farmers during the day time, under the Chief Minister Solar Ag. Pump Scheme, it is decided to set up solar power projects near the substations to provide electricity to farmers during the day time, said the Hon. Energy Minister Dr. Nitin Raut. On the occasion of the 151st birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, as per the instructions of the Hon. Energy Minister, Dr. Raut, the scheme was launched to provide electricity during the day time to about 25,000 farmers which are spread across at least 50 transmission lines in the state.The arrears of agricultural pumps in the state are around Rs 42,000 Crore including interest and penalties. The issue of arrears on agricultural pumps is under consideration of the Government of Maharashtra. However, considering the current financial situation of MSEDCL, at least 80 percent of the agricultural consumers on the feeder are expected to pay their current electricity bills while implementing the above scheme.In order to successfully implement the scheme and to provide electricity during the day to the farmers, the consumers of the above substations should pay their current electricity bills and cooperate MSEDCL to provide government or private space for setting up solar power projects near the substations, appealed the Hon. Energy Minister Dr. Nitin Raut.At present, as per the MERC regulations, three phase electricity supply for 8 hours during the day time and 10 hours during the night time is given to the farmers in the on rotational basis.
