Manipur burns, is vertically divided…

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur in May 2023. The trigger for the violence against the minority Kuki-Zo community was the protest they held against the majority Meitei community getting reservations in government jobs and opportunities. The Meitei community went on a rampage.

Central Government of Modi and State Government of BJP of CM Biren Singh put the state under an Internet ban. Stray news kept coming from the state about the continued violence against the Kuki-Zo community. The majority community looted sophisticated arms and ammunition from Police Stations and used these arms against the minority Kuki-Zo community. At the time of writing this, more than 160 people have died, more than 60,000 people have been rendered homeless.

Modi Sarkar refused to acknowledge its failure in the state where it had a ‘double-engine’ government.

Then a video surfaced which showed the majority community parading two naked women in a mob. The women was being molested in the video with one perpetrator inserting his hand into the vagina of the naked women. Outrage broke out in the country over this video but the Government at the center refused to address or assure action on the incident. Internet continued to remain shut in the state.

PM Modi refused to speak on the issue and the united opposition had no option but to bring a no-confidence motion against the PM. That was the only way they could get him to come to the parliament and speak on the issue.

During the debate, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke for around half an hour and highlighted how Modi Government had created a vertical divide in the state and that how it had sprinkled kerosene and lit the state. He narrated how he was welcomed but was told that if he was visiting the Meitei, there should be no Kuki in his delegation and if he was visiting the Kuki, there should be no Meitei in his delegation.

Government refuted his contention and Modi spoke for around three minutes on Manipur, beating around the bush during most of his reply to the no-confidence motion.

What Rahul Gandhi had said has now been confirmed by none other than a senior minister in Modi Sarkar. In a statement, Kiran Rijiju said that the CM of the state is unable to control the violence because even the police is split vertically into Meitei and Kuki clans and therefore restoration of peace is becoming an uphill task.

Manipur is the new BJP Laboratory of hate. The state continues to burn, Internet continues to be shut, people are living in relief camps but we are happy that India has landed on the moon!

I am a veteran from the Information Technology industry. Having started my career in 1985 with a company that later became Aptech, I have virtually seen the whole industry evolve from scratch. I became an activist in 2001 after the dot.com bust in 2000. Banking, Finance, Credit Cards, Personal Loans and by extension economy and how money flows in the world are my areas of interest. These are the things that affect everyone, irrespective of their caste, creed, color, race, religion or nationality.

One of the most fascinating thing is how humans have created money and use it as a tool to subjugate others and how we, the common folks, suffer from this man made malaise.

I write about these things and try to separate the wheat from the chaff.
