According to an update issued by BMC official, 18 members of the staff of Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Governor of Maharashtra have tested Corona Positive.
The Governor, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari has gone into self-quarantine within the premises of the Raj Bhavan itself.
Those tested positive include some of the senior members of staff of the office of governor.
Maharashtra has seen a big spike in the number of positive cases as it tries to restart life and come out of a series of lock downs that have virtually destroyed the economy of the state. The number of cases per day are now in the region of 10,000+ every day. Number of deaths too are on the rise. The virus spread is now more in extended parts of Maharashtra with MMR and Pune reporting increase in cases.
Our views is that, although economic activity is important, but nothing can be more important than life itself. Also, if such places and such staff like the staff of Governor of Maharashtra, itself are reporting a spike in infection, then it is obvious that the Government itself is not following proper protocol for prevention of spread. It is easy to advise people to stay indoors and practice social distancing and also easy to tell people that they should provide for their own staff in such a way to prevent spread of Corona but when it comes to itself, the Raj Bhavan is not even providing proper facilities to its own staff.
