State to set up SRPF Women’s Battalion at Katol, Nagpur
1348 women to be recruited in SRPF
Mumbai: In order to strengthen law and order in the state and reduce the workload on the police force, the State government has decided to recruit 10,000 new police constable in Maharashtra Police.The government also decided to raise women’s battalion of the State Reserve Police Force at Katol in Nagpur district. The battalion will have 1348 women police force.
This recruitment will benefit urban and rural youths, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Tuesday.
An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar who is also a Finance Minister in his office in Mantralaya . Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the Home Department had proposed to fill 8,000 posts of police constables. However, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed to add another 2,000 posts and recruit a total of 10,000 police personnel and complete the recruitment process within the next one year. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also directed that a comprehensive proposal be tabled in the Cabinet meeting immediately considering how the recruitment process can be carried out successfully without any hindrance in the backdrop of Corona crisis.
Women SRPF
Apart from the recruitment of 10,000 police personnel in the state, the decision to set up a women’s battalion of the state reserve police force at Katol in Nagpur was also sealed in a meeting.Total 1384 posts will be created for this battalion and these posts will be filled in 3 phases like 461 in each phase. This too will give an opportunity to urban and rural girls for police service.
The battalion will be set up to strengthen law and order in view of the significant number of women in festivals, celebrations and socio-political rallies in the state. Nagpur district was recommended for this SRPF center considering the geographical location of the Nagpur, availability of rail, air and transport facilities. Accordingly, as government land is available within the limits of Katol village, this battalion will be set up there. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed confidence that today’s decision would give an opportunity to the youth of the state to join the police service, as well as reduce the stress on the police and strengthen law and order.
The meeting was attended Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary of Finance Manoj Sounik, Special Principal Secretary of Home Department Amitabh Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue Nitin Karir, Director General of Police Subodh Jaiswal, Principal Secretary of Information and Technology S. Srinivas, SRPF Additional Director General of Police Archana Tyagi and other senior officials were present.
