Women Reservation Bill – Another Jumla?

A special session was ordered by Narendra Modi Sarkar ostensibly to bring about ‘important’ legislation’s that would have far reaching effect on the country. One such legislation was the ‘Women Reservation Bill’, which would give women 33% reservation in every law making body in the country.

The Cabinet passed the bill and it was introduced in the Parliament and it sailed through as the opposition welcomed the bill and sought its immediate implementation.

Alas, that was not to be! The Modi Sarkar surreptitiously introduced conditions into the implementation of the bill. It said that the reservation will come into force only after census (which is pending since 2021) and delimitation exercise of the election commission. It gave a date of 2039 for the possible implementation of the bill.

Also, it made it clear that OBC reservation will not form part of the new reservation policy.

What was sought by Modi as an election winning device fell flat within hours of its introduction and passing. Women are going to ask Modi when are they going to get the reservation that was so hurriedly passed in a special session? If they are going to get reservation only in 2039 then what was the tearing hurry to pass the bill, that too in a special session?

It is obvious that Modi Sarkar is shaken and stirred by its failure to rouse people on the basis of India v/s Bharat, Hinduism and Sanatan and is unable to divert people’s attention from rising prices, falling exports, falling savings, lack of jobs and government’s reluctance to even fill the vacancies that exist in organizations like railways where more than 3,50,000 posts are vacant.

It is now clutching at straws. It failed to tell the nation that the Congress has been asking for Women’s Reservation for a long time and BJP was batting against it, till Modi decided to turn it into a master stroke.

From the way it is rolling out and with the caveats that are coming into open, Women’s Reservation Bill is going to turn out to be just another Jumla, just like the 15,00,000 to every account and 2,00,00,000 Jobs that were to be created every year!
